Additional Luttrell pages not listed on page Headers and Footers

B The Luttrells of Courtwood Family tree

C Luttrell Headstone inscriptions from Cooolbanagher Cemetery

D The Luttrell and Cassidy Brothers

Over the coming weeks or possibly months I am planning to add additional Luttrell Family pages to my website. Each NEW Pages will focus directly on a different Luttrell family with Queens County connections. The links to these new pages will appear here.

FIRST NEW PAGE Alexander and Harriet Luttrell family page.
This family is Line 2 on the Luttrells of Coolbanagher page on my website. DNA Analysis shows that my Luttrell family line and a descendant of Alexander and Harriet match all 23 markers and so likley to be related up to approximately six generations ago.

SECOND NEW PAGE Simon and Elizabeth Luttrell family page.
This page is written by Leonard Luttrell and tells of Simon and Elizabeth who emigrated to Canada in 1824/5.
DNA Analysis also shows that Leonard and myself match all 23 markers and so likley to be related up to approximately six generations ago.

Indeed the best man at Simon's wedding in Queens County Ireland was John Luttrell who was my own great great grandfather.

IRISH LUTTRELLS

The Luttrell Family Crest
My Ancestors were born in Courtwood, County Laois, (also Queens County, Laoighis or Leix), Ireland.

My earliest known ancestor, my gggrandfather, was John Luttrell who was born about 1805 in Courtwood. Courtwood is a townland of about 1700 acres in Lea parish. The nearest town is Stradbally and it is about 12 miles from Portlaoise and 7 miles from Athy Co. Kildare. In the 18th and 19th century the landlords of the lands in Courtwood were the BOWEN family.

Johns' son Simon, who was born in 1842, was my greatgrandfather. In turn his son Daniel, born in 1877 in Courtwood, was my grandfather while my own father Simon was born in 1923 in Fisherstown. To find out more about my ancestors, The Luttrells of Courtwood follow this link.

However my interest in the Luttrells is not confined to my own family but to all other Luttrells in Laois and indeed Ireland. It is thought that most Luttrells who lived in the 19th Century in Laois and in surrounding Counties Kilkenny, Tipperary, Kildare and Dublin share a common ancestor. I do not know, as yet, if they are connected in anyway to the Luttrells of Luttrellstown Castle, County Dublin.

The earliest reference I can find to Luttrells in Laois is the marriage of Catherine Luttrell of Luttrellstown to Robert Hartpole abt. 1653. Her brother was Stephen Luttrell who was associated with Coolbangher but I do not know if he is linked to the Luttrells that later lived there. There is an Edward Lutterell buried in the old Coolbanagher graveyard - he was buried in 1770 aged 70 years. Edward and James Luttrell of Cappakeel, Edward Luttrell of Emo and Alexander Latterall were listed on the freeholders list of 1775. Here is a link to the Freeholders list of 1775 courtesy of Rootsweb. If you are in any way connected to these Luttrells I would be delighted to hear from you. In return I will share any information that I have gathered with you. I have already established contact with Luttrell descendants in USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa and England.

SURNAME PROJECT

I recently decided to look into DNA analysis as an aid to linking Luttrell Lines worldwide
My results came back recently from DNA HERITAGE where I had 23 markers tested. I have posted my results on ybase. I have three Luttrell members signed up to our DNA project and am currently looking for other Luttrell males to follow suit.
According to my results my Luttrells are halotype I1a predicted, meaning that it is likley that we are of Norman and Scandanvian roots all the way back to the Gravettian Culture.
Please contact me if you are interested or click on this link to visit the DNA HERITAGE website.

More importantly I am hoping to find Luttrells whose DNA markers match closely with mine - someone with 22 or 23 markers is related but less matches among the markers suggest uncommon ancestors.
We have results for a Descendant of a Simon Luttrell who emigrated in 1825 from Queens County to New Brunswick and then to prince Edward Island Canada. His results match all the 23 markers that we had tested. This proves that Simon was closely related to my ancestor John Luttrell.

In addition results from a descendant of Alexander Luttrell of Kilberry, Kildare, thought to have been born in Coolbanagher abt 1801, and who emigrated to Canada in 1854, also show a match at all 23 markers. This gives credence to talk by older generations of Luttrells that the Coolbanagher branch of the family and the Courtwood branch are both descended from the one Luttrell man. In all probability, given the 23 marker match that convergence may be as early as the mid 18th century. I am anxiously looking for other Luttrells to sign up for the test so that we can broaden the test pool and hopefully link together more Luttrells.

Note; Unless otherwise stated all place names listed on this site are in County Laois, Ireland. Use this link from the Laois Co. Co. Website to find townlands in Laois. Click here. and use the drop down menu to select the townland you want.
If you wish to find out more about any townland I recommend the
SEANRUAD WEBSITE

Throughout the records that I have searched I have seen many different variations in the spelling of the Luttrell name. Lutterell, Lutteral, Luttrel, Luttrall and Luttrelle to name but a few. In all cases I have used the Luttrell name only on this site.
