The Fitzpatrick Family Crest and Motto

DANIEL FITZPATRICK

Daniel Fitzpatrick is the first known member of our Fitzpatrick family. Daniel would have been born around 1810 in Clononeen, Borris in Ossary. Very little is known of Daniel but is is believed that he spent some of his time as a hedge-school teacher. He married Ellen Delaney and as far as we know they had a family of at least three children. They had two boys, John and James and a daughter Norah.

NORAH FITZPATRICK
Norah was the oldest and was born in April 1836. She was unmarried and died aged 92 years old. She was buried in the family plot in Kyle Cemetary with her two brothers.

JOHN FITZPATRICK
John was the next child born in 1837 and later married Annie Cleere from Clough in October 1884 and they had a family of nine. Their details are as follows:
1. James was born in 1887 and died at 8 months.
2. Ellen was born in 1885 and maried Martin McEvoy of Rosslean, Portlaoise. Many of their children emigrated to New Zealand and when they retired they also moved to New Zealand. Nell, as she was better known, lived until the age of 102 Years.
3. Mary, born in 1890, became a bar manageress in London and married local man Charlie Dobbs. They had no family.
4. Nora, born in 1892, married George Keyes of Lalors Mills and they had a family of four which included Jack Keyes who ran a succesful haulage business near Portlaoise. Jack is now retired and his children continue the family business.
5. Anne was born in 1893 and did not marry. She died in 1960.
6. Margaret, or Madge as she was better known as, married Ted Wilmot in London and had a daughter Peggy. Madge lived to 103 years and died in 1997.
7. Daniel Joseph, my Grandfather, was born in 1895 and married Mary Brophy of Vicarstown. He emigrated to London and worked there for a few years before returning home and buying a shop in Borris-in-Ossary. They had three children. The eldest Sean died at 6 years of age. My mother Anna who of course married Simon Luttrell of Fisherstown in 1947 and Joseph who married Mary Cooke and who set up Fitzpatricks Garage in Monasterevin. Their children include Donal, Joe-Joe and Liam who are growing the family business each year.
8. Bridget, or Bridie, was born in 1897 and married George Cranston in London, and had a daughter Mary. Mary married Arthur Carroll and is living in Oklahoma. Their children are Anthony, Judy, Margaret, Bridget and Wayne, most of whom recently visited Ireland.
9. Agnes was born in 1899 and like so many of her brothers and sisters emigrated to London where she married Frank Creasey. They had no children and Agnes died and was buried in London in 1958.

JAMES FITZPATRICK
James was born in 1843 and married Mary Fahy about 1890 and they had a family of six.
1. Ellen or Nell was born in Sept 1893 and married John Drennan of Dublin. They had two Children Marie and John. John married and lived in Raheny but had no children. Marie married a man from Cork but little more is known of her.
2. Frank was born in June 1895 and married Mary Ann Riordan in Borris. They had no children.
3. Norah was born in August 1898 and married Frank McKenna of the Swan. They emigrated to England and had seven children. There are many descendants about today.
4. Daniel was born in Nov 1900 and married Elizabeth Bergin of Grangemore. They had a nine ; Jim, Joe, Frank, Pierce, Leonard, Maura, Leila, Bridget and Daniel. Most of these children married and have Grandchildren now.
5. Mary was born in April 1902 and maried Jim Heffernan of Derrin. They had one son Tom who is married and has living descendants.
6. James was born in April 1905 and married Ciss Lynam. THey had two sons Jim ( Junior) and Joe.
